Echocardiogram

The echocardiogram has become routinely used in the diagnosis, management, and follow-up of patients with any suspected or known heart disease. It is one of the most widely used diagnostic tests in cardiology.

Cardiologists are routinely trained in the performance and evaluation of echocardiographic examinations as part of their specialist skill set.

Sunshine Coast Cardiology is a specialist centre for echocardiography and performs this examination routinely on ambulatory patients and in- patients at The Buderim Private Hospital.

Echocardiography, when performed by a skilled operator, can provide a wealth of helpful information, including the size and shape of the heart, and heart muscle function. It allows the evaluation of valvular heart disease.  By assessing the motion of the heart wall, echocardiography can help detect the presence and assess the severity of any wall damage that may be associated with coronary artery disease.

Echocardiography is a complex evaluation, from the doctor’s initial clinical assessment,  and provisional diagnosis, through to careful examination of the patient’s heart structure and function by our skilled and experienced cardiac echocardiographer,  under the supervision of Dr Kypraios.

The specialist cardiologist will integrate his clinical knowledge and skill in the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease, in carefully reviewing the images and blood flow information obtained. As a result, an accurate and clinically relevant report will be produced, to assist in diagnosis. Dr Kypraios will also provide referring doctors with advice and decision support, on echocardiographic examinations performed on our practice.

Echocardiography is available daily, as an open access GP referred service, and performed in our facility at Buderim.
